Hunger creates desperation. The inability to feed one's children - let alone one's self - can drive the upstanding citizen into a pattern of criminality that would have been previously unthinkable. When we are unable to do so, pressure to render unto Caesar what is his forces us to behave as cornered animals who will lash out with proverbial teeth and claws in order to protect ourselves and our own from his henchmen in Brooks Brothers suits who bring lawsuits and judgments tucked inside of their Kenneth Cole briefcases. But, as the Storm increases in intensity, the supernaturally icy terrain will become a level playing field where feet in Allen Edmonds shoes will have no advantage over those in well-worn sneakers purchased from Wal-Mart.
Hunger unhinges the mind from stability. Pressure to pay the bankers who mortgage our lives increases when the income is diminished. While we must indeed render unto Caesar what is his, many bankers will die as their ivory towers collapse in the coming weeks and months. The Money Men will kill each other as they fight over what is left of the life of terminally ill Dollar Bill who is their god and who is this day hooked to life support machines. For many Americans, it will come down to hunger and that breeds desperation. Desperation inspires and provokes once unthinkable acts, and those who wear the nicest suits are in the greatest danger of tasting the metal of a pitchfork and smelling the burning of their own flesh under the directly applied heat of a torch.
Jesus commands us to love our neighbors as ourselves. The days are coming quickly upon us when our neighbors may be cold, wet, hungry, and desperate. Our neighbors may lose their homes and need a place to go as this Styrofoam pedestal that we stand upon collapses below our feet. It is down to months and only weeks and each day brings a slight increase in the intensity of the Supernatural Storm that is spilling into the Natural. We are one event away from the maelstrom raging through our streets and yards; that event could be Middle Eastern war, a terror attack on a U.S. city, or Dollar Bill's heart falling into V-Tach at the hands of the Puppet Masters, down through the strings to the teleprompted Arrogant Marionette. Many are hungry today, and many more are about to be. While we should love our neighbors, we should pray that they love us as well.
May we pray?
Dear Lord - We pray today for provision and protection. You are coming soon to take home Your church of true believers, but while You tarry, please enable us to provide for ourselves, our families, and if need be, our neighbors. As the turbulence is growing, please allow Your Holy Spirit to guide us to walk in your ways as we head into gale-force winds. You have placed a burden in my soul that I should warn others of what is coming, and I personally pray that You will give me the necessary sight to see and the discernment to test the spirits and know what is of You and not of the enemy.
Please Lord, enable us to protect ourselves from the supernatural, natural, and human wolves that may visit us with the intent of doing harm during the growing Storm. Likewise, desperate and hungry people may visit us, and may we be guided in Your way to do as You would do. And if we become desperate and hungry, please allow the Holy Spirit to guide us into lawful and Godly behavior, and may You please provide for us. Jesus - the King of Kings and Lord of Lords, in Your glorious name we pray, Amen!
