Nuke agency says Iran can make bomb

Iran experts at the U.N.'s nuclear monitoring agency believe that Tehran has the ability to make a nuclear bomb and worked on developing a missile system that can carry an atomic warhead, according to a confidential report seen by The Associated Press.

The document drafted by senior officials at the International Atomic Energy Agency is the clearest indication yet that those officials share Washington's views on Iran's weapon-making capabilities and missile technology — even if they have not made those views public.

The document, titled "Possible Military Dimension of Iran's Nuclear Program," appeared to be the so-called IAEA "secret annex" on Iran's alleged nuclear arms program that the U.S., France, Israel and other IAEA members say is being withheld by agency chief Mohamed ElBaradei — claims the nuclear watchdog denies.

It is a record of IAEA findings since the agency began probing Iran's nuclear program in 2007 and has been continuously updated.

Calls to the Iranian mission at the United Nations were not immediately returned.

  1. I would love to hear your views on Israel's illegal atomic weapons programs. I am curious if you agree with sanctions to bring them to the table to comply with the non-proliferations treaty. They illegally created/obtained their nuclear arsenal and refuse to sign the treaty that would allow for the inspections of the manufacturing plants and arsenals.

  2. Hi there, If Israel's program is illegal then yes I would agree with sanctions. Iran should definately not be allowed to have any kind of nuclear anything as long as their current leadership is in power. President Ahmadinejad can't give a speech anywhere without threating to annihilate someone. Not a good thing!

  3. Rachel,

The US has known of their (illegal) nuclear weapons since the mid 1970s. It is true that Ahmadinejad is often throwing threats about and is likely a very dangerous character. I suppose Netanyahu would also fall into that category... Of course, he seems to be more effective at actually annihilating "undesirables". Personally, I wish no one had nuclear weapons, including the U.S.

  4. I agree with you I wish no one had nuclear weapons. They are not a good thing. Our current administration doesn't appear to be quite so friendly towards Isreal as past administations were so who knows maybe they will pursue sanctions against them one day.

  5. True. The current administration has been using different language. The proof is in the pudding. Here's to fewer weapons and greater understanding between nations.
