The Summer That Never Was (c) 2010 Jim Yackel

It has been a long, hot, summer - and yet it has been the Summer That Never Was. This writer has encountered so many that are struggling with issues in the Supernatural and in the Natural and it inspires empathy within me and also an ability to relate through similar experiences.

As so many are straining, for them this summer never was summer in the traditional sense as there haven't been days at the beach, cool drinks with little umbrellas in the glass, and vacations taken at camp grounds and resorts. There have been no barbecues with family and friends held in grassy, shady parks that border beautiful blue lakes; as they haven't been able to afford the hot dogs, burgers, and charcoal. Instead, there has been intense heat in sweltering apartments that they will soon be evicted from. There are automobiles in disrepair as there is not enough money to pay for gas and to get the brakes repaired. Ramen Noodles are a standard menu item as this soup may encourage high blood pressure but at least it is exceedingly affordable when many foods are no longer within reach.

Please pray for each other. This summer that never was will soon exit stage left and allow Autumn to perform, but will the colorful leaves sing a song of solace for the struggling that make up the greater part of the audience? Those who watch at the wall in August of 2010 are sitting in the balcony and will see a different scene being played out when Autumn begins to sing her love ballad once sweet and now melancholy. Her lament will be mournful and in that we must continue to pray.

This writer has warned of a Storm and it is upon us now, but it for the most part rages in our periphery and not within the tunnel of our myopia. I have ceased writing the
Storm Warningcolumns as I can no longer describe what I see in a way that would make any sense or be credible in its form. It is worse than expected and yet for the most part it is supernatural. Do you relate at all to what I mean?

Again, we must pray for each other. There are so very many with devastating private struggles who feel that they are alone in their own personal Storm that is invisible to those who pitch their tents nearby. Jesus is the only way out of this Storm and He is using us in each others' lives as His hands and feet on this earth. He walked on water and we are walking on ice of varying thicknesses; even though it is the long, hot summer that never was.

For so many this is the Mean Season, but Christ's Holy Spirit is the breastplate and the sword. So many are losing everything else, but these incorruptible tools of life are weighty enough that they will not blow away on the Storm's increasing winds.
